Published
In this video, Dr Sharat Verma, (Paediatric Hepatology) Consultant at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket explains what Wilson’s Disease is and what are its symptoms, causes, treatment and methods of diagnosis. He explains that Wilson’s Disease is a unique disease caused by deposition of excess copper in every organ of the body that we can imagine. It is genetically mediated and usually comes to fore in children. The diagnosis is not very much straight forward. It need series of battery of tests, but in the end of it you finally need a genetic analysis.
According to Dr Sharat, his team offers the latest diagnostic genetic tests possible, using the next generation sequencing of the whole gene, rather than just for some specific mutations. At the same time, Max Healthcare offers the latest medical management that is possible including the Trientine. If the child has decompensated to a point in which they cannot salvaged using the medical therapy, at the point of time a liver transplantation is required. So, a timely diagnosis and effective management is the crux of the matter which is time sensitive.
