Whipple Disease | Causes, Risk Factors, Pathophysiology, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Whipple disease is a very rare systemic infection caused by the gram positive bacteria Tropheryma whipplei. Illness is caused by issues in host immunity, leading to a variety of inflammatory affects in multiple systems of the body. Because of this, the clinical features are varied and can include gastrointestinal, neurological and rheumatological symptoms. Diagnosis is often difficult because of this, and treatment involves chronic use of antibiotics.
