Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent you from getting very sick with COVID-19, however, if you get COVID, monoclonal antibodies are the best treatments available. They are up to 85 percent effective in reducing hospitalization due to COVID-19. When COVID is present, antibodies stop viruses from attacking the cells in your lungs. The one-time treatment is given through an IV in an infusion clinic. It takes about an hour to administer. Monoclonal antibody treatment should be given as soon as possible after symptoms start and you’ve tested positive. Monoclonal antibody treatment is an option for people 65 and older, people whose BMI is over 25, people with chronic medical conditions or are immunocompromised. If you test positive for COVID-19, talk to your doctor to see if monoclonal treatment is right for you.
