Cancerous tumours can arise when cells in any part of the body grow and reproduce abnormally. Cancers known as leukaemias start in cells that ordinarily develop into distinct types of blood cells. White blood cells, often known as lymphocytes, are the origin of the malignancy known as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL).
Chemotherapy is the major kind of treatment where anticancer drugs are administered orally to kill or suppress cancer cells, or they are injected into a vein under the skin or into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Targeted therapy or other forms of treatment may be done in addition to chemotherapy.
The course of treatment could last anywhere from six to twelve months. The patient gradually gets better after each treatment session. In most cases, CLL patients who do not relapse after 5 years are cured. Approximately 85% of individuals who are diagnosed with leukaemia will continue to be cancer-free for at least five years.
