Dame Cicely Saunders, Nursing Training Notes 1942-1944

Reference: K/PP149/2/1/2

This item is part of the papers of Dame Cicely Saunders and is a nursing notebook relating to her training at the Nightingale Home and Training School, St Thomas' Hospital.

The notebook contains manuscript notes relating to Saunders' nursing training, including case notes of patients she attended, lecture notes relating to nursing and medical procedures, drug information and disease aetiology. The notebook also contains contact details of her fellow Nightingale nurses and several named patient charts. File includes sensitive personal data and is CLOSED for review in 2028.

About Dame Cicely Saunders:

Dame Cicely Saunders (1918 - 2005) was a pioneer in the field of palliative care. In 1967, she established St Christopher's Hospice, Sydenham, which set the standard for modern hospices across the world and combined pain management with a holistic appreciation of the importance of the spiritual well-being of the patient in the treatment of the dying. Her papers are held at King's College London Archives and the Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives.
