The obesity epidemic: Is the cure worse than the disease?

This presentation explores why adults gain weight as they age, the health implications of excess weight, and why interventions have often been ineffective.

Russ Turner, PhD, is a professor of Skeletal Biology, the Director of the Skeletal Biology Laboratory, and the Interim Head of the School of Biological and Population Health Sciences at Oregon State University. His research focuses on gravitational physiology, osteoimmunology, and etiology and treatment of osteoporosis.

He has long been interested in the cause, prevention, and treatment of osteoporosis. His work has focused on the respective contribution of physical activity, nutrition, and pharmacological approaches in maintaining optimal bone health. His contribution to science in these areas is represented in over 300 publications to date.
