The main challenges in the treatment of multiple sclerosis

Published
Celia Oreja-Guevara, MD, PhD, University Hospital San Carlos, Madrid, Spain, lists three of the main challenges regarding multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment across Europe. Firstly, rehabilitation is often needed by patients, but can be overlooked by governing bodies. Hence, rehabilitation becomes hard to access, with a lot of out-of-pocket costs for the patients. Secondly the field does not have any treatments for remyelination, to allow nerve recovery. Lastly, Dr Oreja-Guevara comments on the fact that invisible symptoms, such as fatigue, pain, and cognitive alterations, remain untreated. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2022 Congress in Vienna, Austria.
