The Blue Zones- Living your healthiest life to the fullest

Today’s story dives into exploring life expectancy and which lifestyle habits contribute to living with minimal chronic disease. In the USA, the typical American born averages about 78 years. However, interestingly, over 70,000 Americans have reached their 100th birthday. This leads us to consider what it is that they are doing to reach this impressive longevity? To answer this intriguing question, researchers set out to find the world’s longest-lived people and study their lifestyles.
Sparked by the Danish Twin Study, the scientific field established only about 20% of how long the average person lives is determined by their genes. That’s great news! In other words, you don’t have to hit the genetic lottery to live a long, healthy life. Considering less than 20% of our life expectancy is determined by genetics, the remainder is in our hands to determine.
Researchers found pockets of people around the world with the highest life expectancy and minimal chronic disease. What if we could create an environment that facilitates healthy lifestyle behaviors, making the healthy choice the easy choice?
