Shantou University Medical College (SUMC)

Shantou University Medical College (SUMC) is an important part of Shantou University (STU), a public university that receives long-term support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, located in Shantou, Guangdong, China, a scenic and peaceful coastal city in the South China and very close to the first-tier cities Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong with express trains. SUMC is dedicated to producing qualified medical professionals, providing quality healthcare services and undertaking innovative research projects. Guided by its core values of innovation, dedication and exemplary professionalism, SUMC has made impressive progress in medical curriculum reforms, scientific research, professional training, international collaboration and exchange over the past decades.
At present, SUMC has over 220 full-time faculty members, among whom 90 have full professor ranks and 76 have associate professor ranks, over 62% hold doctorate degrees and 47% have international experience either by studying or working abroad. There are 3,377 students currently enrolled at SUMC, including 1,885 undergraduate students, 1,351 master students and 124 doctorate students. SUMC has five affiliated hospitals with over 6,000 patient beds and six associated partner hospitals to service eastern and northern Guangdong, the Pearl River Delta as well as Hainan and provide clinical training to medical students.
The International Office is the official administrative department of Shantou University Medical College (SUMC) on implementing the SUMC international policies and on coordinating its international exchanges and cooperation. The International Office supports the international activities of SUMC; recruits and supports international students to study at SUMC; applies for approvals and visas for faculty and stuff on business trips; provides assistance to foreign faculty and staff on immigration matters; organizes and coordinates short-term overseas exchange programs for undergraduates, etc.
