She immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 45… this is what happened

Published
Every immigrant has a story. A story about their journey, their identity, their accomplishments and struggles, and of course, the place of English in it. Many of my students are immigrants, I was an immigrant myself. There are commonalities, for sure, but each story is unique, a story worth telling and listening to.

In this episode, we’ll hear the story of Rita Ramirez. From the time she could remember, Rita always wanted to immigrate to the US. But the cards she’d been dealt prevented her from realizing her dream when she was younger. When she turned 45, she decided that after spending her entire life designing her life around others, NOW IT’S HER TIME and she immigrated to the U.S.

In this interview she shares with us her experiences, the reasons that led her to make that move, the challenges she had to overcome, and more. And most importantly, how all of that taught her to live each day to the fullest, with gratitude and joy.

If you’d like to share your English story as an immigrant, we’d be happy to hear it (click here https://bit.ly/3GSp6d4). During the next few months I’ll share some of your stories, answer questions you might have, and host immigrants, as well as people whose work involves English and the immigrant experience.
