South Korea has signed a contract with the U.S. drugmaker Pfizer to pre-purchase enough of the company's new oral COVID-19 medicine for seventy-thousand patients.
This was announced Friday as part of the government's plan to start taking delivery in the first quarter of next year... of enough pills for some four-hundred-four-thousand patients.
Beyond that, the government said it plans to continue monitoring the progress of drugmakers and their clinical trials to secure more doses.
The CEO of Merck, Robert Davis, said that once his company gets approval from the FDA, it's ready to ship 10 million doses of its own coronavirus treatment by the end of this year.
The FDA is set to meet in late November for a decision on that.
