Roxithromycin is a semsynthetic macrolide antibiotic
It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.
Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.

Indications :
Ear Nose throat infection
Pneumonia
Acute bronchitis
Sinusitis
Pharyngitis
Tonsilitis
Genital infections

Dosage : 150 mg twice daily.

Contra-indication : Concurrent administration ofergotamine type compounds
Hepatic insufficiency
Paediatrics: Reduced dose necessary.
Not recommended in children below the age of 6 months.
Pregnancy: Safety not clearly established
Lactation: Safety not clearly established
Elderly: No special problem

Side-effects :
Nausea & vomiting
Gastralgia
Diarrhoea
Rare rashes
Transient rises in liver transaminase

Drug Interactions:
Displace disopyramide from protein binding sites.Increase absorption of digoxin.
Prolongs half life of midazolam
serum levels of terfenadine increased
