Review of quantification and Landscape assessments on abortion commodities

Published
In this webinar, we will showcase two presentations.

Ipas will share the process of implementing the first quantification initiative of abortion commodities in DR Congo, a country that has recently changed its legal and policy framework on abortion from restrictive to progressive, in a context of lack of evidenced-based information on abortion and limited attention to stock management of abortion commodities. The presentation will highlight the development of forecasting and quantification tools and the commitment of national and local leaders to work on the abortion commodity supply chain in maintaining the availability of abortion supplies in health facilities.

The World Health Organization/UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP) in collaboration with Venture Strategies for Health and Development (VSHD) conducted Landscape Assessments of the Availability of Medical Abortion (MA) Medicines resulting in country-specific findings. These Landscape Assessments identify key challenges and opportunities based on country-specific findings, which can be built on to increase availability of quality-assured MA medicines and improve access to MA services. A first report with findings from eight countries was finalized in 2020, and this presentation will focus on the findings of the nine second wave countries. Given the cross-cutting learnings and potential for high-level country impact, these reports are a resource for stakeholders working towards achieving wider availability of MA medicines and services in countries.
