Resilient public health systems key to tackle disease outbreaks

The world is entering an era of multiple outbreaks of diseases, and resilient public health systems will be key in dealing with them. That's according to Dr Seth Berkley, CEO of GAVI: The Vaccine Alliance. He was speaking ahead of the World Health Summit which kicks off in Berlin, Germany on Sunday. Speaking to the SABC's Sherwin Bryce-Pease, Berkley warned of the rising likelihood of COVID-like pandemics spurned by climate change and increasing populations. But he also indicated that it was possible to shore-up health manufacturing capacity in regions like Africa, focusing on building a sustainable long-term business model.
