Polypharmacy and Influence on Renal Insufficiency, JSN (2022) - Poster Audio/ Podcast

Between 2005 and 2015, the percentage of individuals over 65 years of age in the UK rose by just over 20%. The age group that saw the greatest percentage increase was the over 85s, which increase by just under 33%, representing about 300,000 people. The number of people over the age of 85 years is projected to double between 2012 and 2032.

This audio/ podcast provides an overview of a systematic review, which appraised literature surrounding influence of polypharmacy on renal insufficiency in older people and explored the following questions:

Should there be smarter medicines management to reduce polypharmacy in older people?
Can technology be used to determine who should be screened for renal insufficiency if ‘toxic drugs’ are overprescribed?
What are the advantages of technology that incorporates algorithms in collaborative working?
