. Parkinson's disease is a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder of the melanin-containing-dopaminergic neurons in the anterior part of the substantia nigra pars compacta.
Pars compacta are involved in tonal modulation.

Most people with parkinsonism have idiopathic-Parkinson's disease. Idiopathic means the cause is unknown.
Hereditary Parkinson's disease can be autosomal-dominant or autosomal-recessive. Parkinson's disease can run in families as a result of faulty genes being passed to a child by their parents. But it is rare.

The prevalence increases with the increase of age.
The prevalence increases by 3% after 60-80 years of age.
