No, monkeypox is not a sexually transmitted disease

Published
An increasing number of people including one viral tweet with 4k likes are asking if Monkeypox is an STD. We turned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, National Institutes of Health and Robert Murphy, M.D. with Northwestern University, to find out.

QUESTION: Is Monkeypox a sexually transmitted disease?

ANSWER: This is false. The virus can spread among anyone who has close contact with an infected person, whether they have sex or not. The CDC explained the virus can enter through broken skin anywhere on your body, respiratory tract, mucous membranes in your eyes, nose and mouth, or even touching clothing that came into contact with an infected person’s rash.
