New Brunswick update on unknown neurological disease – October 27, 2021

Published
In Fredericton, Dorothy Shephard, New Brunswick’s minister of health, Dr. Natalie Banville, vice-president of medical affairs for Vitalité Health Network, and Dr. Susan Brien, vice-president of medical, academic and research affairs for Horizon Health Network, provide an update on the potential neurological syndrome first detected in the province in March. An epidemiological report has ruled out food or environmental exposures as a common factor in cases. The syndrome, which has been identified as having no known cause, produced symptoms similar to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare and fatal brain disease.
