Native Hawaiian Theology and Our Connection to Our Ancestors

Published
Here is the Zoom recording of our June 18, 2022 Interfaith service.

This week we celebrated National Indigenous Peoples Day. This is when those of us here in Canada celebrate the unique heritage and diverse cultures of our Indigenous siblings and friends.

Kanaka Maoli (i.e. Hawaiian native) Kauanoe Hoomanawanui co-led this service. She spoke about "Opukaha'ia: Kanaka Maoli Theology," a brief history of American Christianity in Hawaii, and her own family history as both a descendent of Opukaha'ia and as a Christian faith leader in Kauai today.
