Liver disease is a silent killer. Are you at risk?

Published
Like many patients, Tony Villioti had never heard of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). By the time he was diagnosed, his condition had already progressed to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis. His condition had slowly and silently worsened over the years. Ultimately he was diagnosed with liver cancer and had to have a liver transplant.

Tony's story is all too common; he was diabetic for many years (a risk factor for NAFLD), and although his doctor discovered early-on that his liver enzymes were elevated, Tony was told not to worry about it. The symptoms of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease are often clinically silent until the disease reaches a critically late stage.

Watch him tell his full story.
