[Korea Contactless Technology] VR Provision System for the treatment of traffic accident PTSD

Published
Today, we’re going to look at the development of traffic accident survivor PTSD-treatment VR technology, one of the Ministry of Science and ICT and NIPA-supported projects and making life better in a contactless era.

With new technologies in this 4th industrial revolution, the non-contact and non-face-to-face digital economy has been growing quickly – especially in the field.

And because of the COVID-19 pandemic, new technologies have to be developed to keep Korea competitive.

One of them is a traffic accident PTSD VR digital treatment device for life-related self-care services.
More than 50 million people worldwide have suffered physical trauma from car accidents. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment includes psychosocial intervention methods such as drug therapy and psychotherapy. Among them, a technique that requires stimuli control, which requires the therapist to consistently focus the trauma on the participant, causes side effects as it reminds the participant of the accident.

Thus, they created something to use cognitive behavioral therapy based on virtual reality to help accident trauma patients. Specifically, they developed virtual reality-based ICT psychological care content that alleviates PTSD after a traffic accident. They created a PTSD monitoring and self-care service app. Next, they developed traffic accident VR content and a vehicle-to-person and vehicle-to-vehicle traffic accident PTSD patient treatment manual. And finally, they upgraded the PTSD VR for vehicle-to-vehicle traffic accidents.

As a global leader in overcoming the pandemic, Korea has been creating non-face-to-face services to help make the world a better and safer place to live.

In the contactless situation, the treatment effect and side effects are improved through the advancement of the PTSD VR exposure treatment program for traffic accidents. This will lead to better psychological diagnosis monitoring, prevention, and treatment through cooperation with primary, secondary, and tertiary hospitals and mental healthcare institutions. Thus, this PTSD VR digital device is expected to play a major role in the digital therapy.
