GUILLAIN-BARRÉ SYNDROME: Know how to identify this disease timely, as treatment could be lifesaving.

Guillain-Barré or Landry-Guillain-Barré-Strohl disease is due to a severe inflammation of the peripheral nerves that occurs mainly due to a disastrous cross-talk between our own autoimmune system and various infectious agents that our bodies are exposed to. I, in my not so lengthy career, as a neurologist, have lost several patients due to this disease, even after proper treatment was instituted to them. So, please, if ever at all, you or someone you know develops such symptoms, seek urgent help. Early and emergent treatment can be lifesaving, and why are we even doctors if not to save lives, huh?
