Gudjon, from Iceland, is living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or motor neuron disease (MND). He is chair of MND Iceland and a founding member of the European Organization for Professionals and Patients with ALS (EUpALS). ALS/MND weakens the muscles needed for voluntary movements like chewing, walking and talking. Its rapid progression means the level of support a person needs is constantly changing. Here, Gudjon shares his thoughts on considering genetic counselling and testing for people with ALS/MND. In some cases, genetic tests can identify a genetic mutation associated with the condition.
