Glutamine metabolism as a diagnostic tool for bone disease in patients with multiple myeloma

Nicola Giuliani, MD, PhD, University of Parma, Parma, Italy, talks on the role of glutamine metabolism as a diagnostic tool in patients with multiple myeloma. Prof. Giuliani first explains how multiple myeloma cells inhibit osteoblasts by reducing the levels of glutamine, and further comments on how fluoroglutamine can be used as a tracer for PET scan imaging of the skeleton in patients with multiple myeloma. This interview took place at the 19th International Myeloma Society Meeting (IMS) held in Los Angeles, CA.
