Future of Value-Based Healthcare in Ireland - RCSI Webinar

Published
Former HSE chief Tony O’Brien chaired a webinar exploring value-based healthcare as a solution to some of Ireland’s greatest healthcare challenges.

The Healthcare Outcomes Research Centre at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences (RCSI) hosted the first event in a new webinar series, Future of Value-Based Healthcare in Ireland, about the policy and practical application of value-based healthcare in Irish healthcare. Value-based healthcare is a broad term that describes efforts to maximise quality and outcomes of care relative to costs.

Chaired by former Health Service Executive (HSE) Director General, Tony O’Brien, the first webinar looked at what Ireland can learn from other European countries about ‘pay for performance’ models of healthcare to support better population health outcomes and improved patient experience, while at the same time making better use of available healthcare resources or possibly lowering the costs of care.

The first webinar Value over volume: the future of pay for performance in Irish Healthcare, took place on Thursday, 10 March, 2022, 12:00–13:30.

Alongside Mr O’Brien as Chair, speakers included:
- Dr Panos Kefalas, Director of Access Strategy, Cell and Gene Therapy, Catapult
- Dr Leslie Tilson, Deputy Head, National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics
- Shane Gannon, Sector Lead, Pharma and Life Science Consulting, PwC Ireland
