Evaluating probiotics as a treatment for Parkinson's Disease

Valentina Leta, MD, PhD, King’s College London, London, UK, describes ongoing research assessing the efficacy of probiotics in patients with Parkinson's Disease and constipation. In a randomized, double blind trial, the overall health of patients will be monitored as well as whether specific symptoms can be ameliorated with probiotics. Inflammatory markers and the pathophysiology of the disease will additionally be monitored with a smart belt device, which can detect gastric activity. This interview was conducted during the 2022 World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) meeting.
