European guidelines on invasive therapies for Parkinson's disease

Published
Francisco Cardoso, MD, PhD, FAAN, The Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and President of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS), discusses the major updates included in the novel guidelines on invasive therapies in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) published by the European Academy of Neurology and the European section of the Movement Disorder Society. Prof. Cardoso starts by highlighting that the Movement Disorder Society publishes evidence-based assessments of treatments as well as their clinical usefulness, which are used to develop guidelines. The latest European guidelines include recommendations on drugs that have recently become available, the role of deep brain stimulation in earlier disease stages, and updates on the use of infusion therapies. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson's disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
