Dr. Henry Reis on Using Questionnaires and Algorithms for Dry Eye Disease Diagnosis and Treatment

Published
Ophthalmologist Dr. Henry Reis explains the use of algorithms in the process of diagnosing and treating Dry Eye Disease (DED) and how they can make it easier for eye care providers to manage their patients' information in the most effective way. He also discusses the different ways in which patients can experience symptoms in conjunction with underlying indicators of dry eyes, and what this means for the treatment process.

Dr. Henri Reis, MD, owner of Integra Eye Care Centre in Burnaby, B.C, created a Dry Eye Algorithm which was inspired by the DEWS II study. It begins with giving every patient a dry eye questionnaire to fill out which classifies which patients are reporting symptoms of dry eye. From there, the results of the questionnaire can then be implemented into the algorithm’s flowchart to determine the correct pathway to diagnosis and treatment.
