Disease Management and Prevention Programs

Published
From diabetes to chronic pain, to HIV, when it comes to chronic health conditions, Lee Health has several programs designed to help the community. "Our classes teach participants one how to manage certain chronic health conditions. We're going to teach you tools to help manage and prevent future chronic health conditions," explained Sharon Krispinsky, chronic health program coordinator at Lee Health.

Studies show six out of 10 Americans are living with one chronic health condition and four out of ten Americans are living with two or more. "Chronic health conditions are primarily preventable through adopting a good nutrition, eating habits, physical activity, stop smoking, and a decrease in alcohol intake and also it’s very important to have your wellness exams and checkups," Krispinsky said.

Lee Health Solutions offers workshops for chronic disease, chronic pain, diabetes prevention, and weight management. Some of the classes are complimentary to the community. "We meet once a week for six weeks and we teach a variety of tools to self-manage any chronic disease or pain or HIV condition. Currently, most of our classes are virtual due to the pandemic, but we do see patients individually in our offices," she explained.

From medication management to lifestyle modifications, the programs help participants develop healthy habits for sleep, physical activity, nutrition, and stress management. All in hopes of improving the health of Southwest Florida.
