Death Certificates and Archaic Medical Terms - a "must-have" reference book

Published
How many times have you looked at a death certificate and read the cause of death, and go "hmm, interesting" but not really understood what it is?

Genealogist and medical historian, Helen Smith has written 'Death Certificates and Archaic Medical Terms' which gives us all the answers. This book contains information on over 1500 illnesses and causes of death, together with what they really are.

To give you an idea, here's just a few that she lists: Bad Blood, Blue Cough, Dry Bellyache, Confectioner's Disease, Lockjaw, Plague in the Guts, Pleurisy, Three Day Fever and Trench Foot. She gives you details of what each of these actually are, along with about 1500 more!

Apart from that, she gives readers details on when death certificates began (state-by-state, and country-by-county (Aus, UK and US), as well as what information you can find on a death certificate, as that varies greatly from place to place.

This really is one of those really useful reference titles that every historian should have on their shelf.
