Concerns foot and mouth disease has 'already' entered Australia

Published
Shadow Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews says there are concerns foot and mouth disease has already come into Australia and has not yet been detected as the border with Indonesia remains open.

She said Australia’s biosecurity officials are doing “the best they can” to prevent it from entering the country.

“It really is up to the federal government now to just step in and make sure that there are appropriate measures in place,” Ms Andrews told Sky News Australia.

“Whether that means we have to put in a greater regulation for people coming in from Indonesia, from Bali in particular, so we can be assured that there is not foot and mouth disease coming into Australia.”
