Abstract. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease in Western countries. In addition to the classic albuminuric phenotype, a new "non-albuminuric" DKD phenotype has recently emerged, characterized by a decline in renal estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR less than 60 mL/min) in absence of albuminuria. It is unclear whether this phenotype is associated with a different cardiovascular (CV) risk profile. This study aims to evaluate CV risk profile of subjects with non-albuminuric DKD. Our data suggest an increased CV risk in this phenotype of DKD patients.
