Researchers from the University of Cape Town, Dr. Lauren Arendse and Prof. Kelly Chibale, contributed to a groundbreaking discovery that suggests a cancer treatment currently in clinical trials may be able to shield against, treat, and stop the spread of malaria.

The ground-breaking study is a result of a partnership with a number of regional and international organisations from Spain, Germany, and the United States. It offers fresh hope in the fight against a disease that claims more than 500,000 lives annually.
