B. M. Hegde is a cardiologist, professional educator and author. He is the former Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, Co-Chairman of the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai and the chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore.

A medical practitioner with a M.B.B.S from Stanley Medical College. M.D. from King George Medical College , FRCP from Royal College of Physicians. He also has a FACC and FAMS. Hegde has also attained training in cardiology from Harvard Medical School under Bernard Lown.
