Aging Is NOT A Disease- Expert Responds to Anti-Aging Discussion

Published
Aging is not a disease, illness, or problem to be solved.

When we equate aging with disease or illness or… Problems, we ourselves are more likely to experience disease, illness, or problems in our own older adulthood.

We are also less likely to help older adults get help for illness or disease because we think these things are normal with aging, which they may not be.

For example: dementia is not a normal part of aging. Depression is not a normal part of aging. Anxiety is not normal part of aging. Loneliness is not a normal part of aging.

When we believe that certain conditions are normal with aging, we are less likely to help older adults get the mental health and medical health care they need, resulting in needless suffering.

Here’s the good news- You Can Do something about this!

Simply by shifting the way you think about aging, you will not only help yourself in your own older adulthood, you will help all of the older adults in your life.
