6 Year Old’s Blood Cancer Successfully Treated at Shalby Hospitals

Published
Vedant Kubawat is a small child of just 6 years. His family noticed swelling on the left side of his neck in March 2020 and referred him to a local hospital. Based on his sonography & other tests, he was diagnosed with Koch’s disease there and was treated for it till September 2020.

However, there was no improvement at all; the reason for this was that he was misdiagnosed. Then his family brought him to Shalby Hospitals, Ahmedabad, and consulted Dr, Bhavesh Parekh, Senior Medical Oncologist.

Dr. Parekh immediately got his neck biopsy done, post which he was diagnosed with blood cancer. Dr. Parekh treated Master Vedant with four cycles of chemotherapy instead of six to minimize his side effects.

His tests in February 2021 showed his disease was resolved. Still, Dr. Parekh discussed his case in Shalby’s Tumour Board (a board comprising of all oncologists of Shalby’s 11 hospitals, who discuss their cases for most effective treatment and results), post which he was referred to a Radiation Oncologist.

Vedant was on constant observation for one full year, and now he is free of cancer. This case shows that proper diagnosis and optimal treatment are of utmost need for the successful treatment of any disease. In fact, this applies even more in a deadly disease like cancer.

As Vedant and his father share their experience, they are full of appreciation for Dr. Bhavesh Parekh and Shalby Hospitals Ahmedabad.
