GAS PROBLEMS
Our bowel is having some amount of gas normally . its about 100-200 ml during fasting state and increase upto 300 -350 ml after food intake .
Normally a balance is being maintained between gas production and excretion , how ever in certain situations its lost resulting in gas problems .

MECHANISMS OF GAS INPUT INTO BOWEL :

SWALLOWING
It accounts for the normal stomach gas contents ( 10-20 ml )
Each normal swallow carries some amount of air into stomach
But largerd amounts is swallowed during gulping
Air swallow increases during chewing gum .and smoking cigherettes
Composition of swallowed air is usually N2 and O2

INTRALUMINAL PRODUCTION
This is mainly by the bacterias present in the small and large bowel . Gas in this particular region is mainly composed of CO2 , H2 AND METHANE . Substrate from which gas is being produced is partially digested food particles and unfavorable bacteria of colon .

Another mechanism of gas production is diffusion from blood
